A Comparison Of The Various Walk Behind Lawn Mowers

When it comes to the walk behind lawn mower, there are a number of differences between each of the models available; the only thing common amongst all types is that the user is required to walk behind them in order to steer (as their name suggests). Each of these mowers has its pros and cons, but understanding what these are is the first step in choosing which one will best suit your lawn.

 Self-Propelled

This is one of the easier walk behind lawn mowers to use, as it is moved forwards through the force of its motor, not through the user pushing it. These mowers are actually quite similar to a car, as they can be front or rear wheel drive and some even have cruise control.

Pros: They cut grass more evenly; they are suitable for use on larger size lawns (up to half an acre); and they are fitted with blade override (you can stop the blade without stopping the motor).

Cons: They are fairly noisy and require the user to wear hearing protection; they are the most expensive walk behind mowers on the market; and they are infamous for air pollution.

 Electric

These lawn mowers are also fairly easy to use, even though the user must exert some force in order to get the machine to move forwards. They are definitely much newer than some of the other walk behind models.

Pros: They are amazingly easy to start; they are much quieter to run than fuel powered models; and they are amazingly lightweight.

Cons: They are restricted by the length of their cord or the life of their battery (which isnt as long as fuel powered mowers); and they are not as powerful as other types.

 Manual

These are the hardest lawn mowers to use, as they require the exertion of a large amount of pressure from the user in order to move (these mowers arent powered by fuel or electricity at all).

Pros: They are the quietest mowers on the market (as they dont have an motor); and they are very safe to use (as the risk of accidents is quite low when compared with powered models).

Cons: They can be difficult for people with reduced mobility to use; they are unsuitable for large yards; and they dont cut your lawns very evenly or efficiently.

Once you understand the differences between the walk behind lawn mowers on the market (as well as their individual pros and cons) you will be in a much better decision to choose a model for use on your property. Dont just opt for the cheapest option if its going to put a lot of strain on other areas of your life shop wisely!
